The fear of the LORD is the beginning of Knowledge: But fools despise Wisdom and Instruction.

APOSTASY Part VI     “SLOTH”         Volume 1,   Issue 6

THE LAW DOMINATES AFTER THE FALL

It was however, the condemning power of God's Holy Law that dominated and oppressed Adam after his rebellion. Adam could no longer use the Law of God as his light and lamp, nor could he use the Law as his tool to subdue the earth. It was now his enemy. Because of his violated state in sin and enmity, the carnal mind became Adam's master and both it and the Holy Law of God tread him down in its fury.

THE LORD RESTORES

Although it was the mysterious purpose of God to have Adam fall, He never intended mankind to remain doomed to an eternity in hell. His Salvation program, which was ordained before the foundation of the earth, incorporated all of the elect remnant to become Children of the Covenant in Christ. The person and work of the Lord Jesus Christ brings restoration to the fallen elect. It must be emphasized that this restoration is exhaustive. In other words, Christ both restores elect Adam to His favor, and restores his original commission to "subdue and have dominion."

   THE LORD RE-COMMISSIONS

In Luke 10:19 Christ sets forth the re-commissioning declaration.

Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you.
(Luke 10:19 AV)

Thus we see that it is given to the saints to subdue and tread down, by the authority of God, all that oppose the Sovereign Lordship of Christ. Yet, there is one addition to this original commission. The elect, unlike Adam, will be benefited by having the Spirit of Grace and Power at work within them to carry out this commission.

But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.       (Romans 8:9 AV)

But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you.
(Romans 8:11 AV)

Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.       (Colossians 3:16 AV)

For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of [his] good pleasure.      (Philippians 2:13 AV)

Christ promises to work in His people both to will and to do of His good pleasure. This is something Adam did not have originally.  It is the intention of God to work both in His elect and with His elect as the army of Israel, for His Kingdom's sake, Glory and Honor.
It is precisely this Divine Commission that the slothful church has sought to obscure and denounce. The so-called New Testament Church, of this post modern age, has blurred the Holy Law to the extent that it believes it has no longer any obligation to obey it, and the people love to hear this call to irresponsibility. Thus Christ neither wills them or causes them to do of His good pleasure, as it concerns the organic commission to subdue the earth.             RW
