"Pride loves to climb up, not as Zaccheus to see Christ, but to be seen."

THE PRIDE OF THINE HEART

"Thy terribleness hath deceived thee, [and] the pride of thine heart, O thou that dwellest in the clefts of the rock, that holdest the height of the hill: though thou shouldest make thy nest as high as the eagle, I will bring thee down from thence, saith the LORD."       (Jeremiah 49:16 AV)

According to God's Holy Word, pride is a terrible attribute. It is the root of all evil, and the cause of all destruction. It was pride that caused Adam to fall, plunging the entire human race into a sea of hell and wrath. It is pride that causes men to hate and oppress others. It is pride that separates man from God, and brings the wrath of God upon every institution on the earth, the Family, the Church and the State.
The issue of Apostasy always addresses the general nature of pride, and the Scriptural warning against it. The professor of Christianity is amidst a dreadful epidemic of pride. The Apostle Paul warns of this in his Epistle to the Romans, chapter 2, and his pastoral letters to Timothy. Yet for all these warnings from both the Old and New Covenants, Christians seem as if this malady cannot affect them.
Pride is a destroyer that enters by stealth, and destroys by degrees. Before it is detected, it often has already taken its hold and destroyed many in its wake. Pride and selfishness are companions. They work together to bring about the satisfaction of carnal lusts and fleshly desires of the mind.
But pride is crafty as well. It masks itself as righteousness. Many a Pharisee

thought himself to be righteous, and therefore poised to judge others. Today the same is very true.
This epidemic is so universally pervasive that it is frightening. Destructive pride is evident in the personal lives of both believing and non-believing individuals. It is seen in the families between spouses and among siblings. It is exemplified in the churches between ministers and congregate members. The fellowship of the saints has become a breeding ground for slander and malice, rather than a place of encouragement and ministry. It is also found in the various branches of Government. It seems the Executive, Legislative and Judicial arenas are infected beyond remedy. We are in a terrible crisis, and we need to wake up.
However ,by the Goodness of God, He has not left us to our own devises nor given us over to our own destruction. True, at this time He is most certainly sanctioning us as a disciplinary action, but it is for our reformation and revival. The question is "what shall we do?"
The initial response to sin is to pray for the Grace of God to intervene in our own lives first. Remember, the reason for any negative sanction is to cause a stirring in the camp of the saints. This is God's wake up call.
